Capercaillie sounds

Capercaillie males produce rhythmic clicks, pops and deep whooshing calls during spring lek displays, alongside shorter wing flaps, brief forest-bird calls and a handful of unrelated bass-drum and timpani hits. Most recordings capture single males or small groups at dawn in pine woods, with some showing females answering or rival males challenging. Lengths run from one-second drum strikes to a full 81-second continuous lek session, the majority hovering around 15 seconds of unbroken activity.
